Code of conduct

Mutual respect

This community is built on mutual respect - you may not agree with what someone has said but they do have every right to their views.  Be sensitive to your differences and look for common ground.  If you do disagree with what someone has said then make sure you attack the issue and not the person.

Also, remember that members of this community are also busy people - make sure that your postings are relevant and to the point.

Extremist views

This community is not a place for extremist views.  In this spirit we do not tolerate the advocating of violence or incitement to any kind of racial hatred.

Appropriate use

Please make sure that the language you use is appropriate to a public place - no foul language - and if you aren't sure, then leave it out.

We also ask you ensure that anything you post is appropriate to the purpose of the boards. Don't use the boards to promote products or commercial enterprises, and don't post illegal material (including copyrighted material).

Quality debate

Check your facts - we hope that members will take responsibility for making sure that what they say is true.  If you get it wrong or don't know the answer, then say so.

Don't set up multiple identities or usernames, or reply to your own contributions.

Think before you post your message - make sure it really says what you are trying to say.

Use the right places

This community is designed for a lot of different activities - discussion, ideas sharing and information exchange.  Take the time to make sure that you are posting your information or message in the right place.

Privacy policy

We take your right to privacy very seriously.

Opt In
When you register as a member of Christian Aid Connect you are automatically ' opting in' to our privacy policy.  This means that you agree to our use of any personal information that we may collect from you as a member of Christian Aid Connect as set out in this privacy policy. We will only send you information about Christian Aid Connect and its services.

Additionally, you may also opt in to receive occasional information about Christian Aid activities and Christian Aid LTD.  We will contact you where we think it is relevant, based on what you tell us about yourself. This may include, for example, news about Christian Aid campaigns, information about emergency situations around the world and updates about activities in the UK.

 Our privacy policy is simple.

1. Collection of Information
When you register for Christian Aid Connect, you will be required to provide Christian Aid with basic information about yourself (such as contact details and email address).  In addition, you may choose to provide Christian Aid Connect with additional information about yourself within the biography section.

2. Contact
We, Christian Aid, may contact you by letter, fax, e-mail or telephone to provide services and facilities to you.

3. Children
We do not allow persons who we know to be 13 or younger to become members of Christian Aid Connect and do not therefore knowingly solicit personal information from persons aged 13 or younger or share such information with third parties.. We discourage members under the age of 16 from participating in chat or bulletin boards.

4. Chat Rooms and Bulletin Boards
Please note that our chat rooms and bulletin boards are open to the public and if you choose to disclose personal information in these areas you are consenting to its unrestricted distribution throughout Christian Aid Connect and to and by other Christian Aid Connect members.

5. General
Your personal information will be held and used by us in accordance with UK data protection legislation.

We may change this privacy policy from time to time. Any change will take effect once the revised privacy policy is available on the Christian Aid Connect home page.

By using Christian Aid connect, you are agreeing to abide by the terms of service below as the same may be modified by us from time to time. Please read these Terms of Service carefully.  These are accompanied by the code of conduct which talks about the way in which we hope members will behave.

Terms and conditions

 1. Acceptance
Christian Aid Connect is provided free of charge to you by Christian Aid under these Terms of Service. By using Christian Aid Connect you are agreeing to be bound by these Terms of Service.

These Terms of Service govern your use of Christian Aid Connect whether you are a member, a subscriber or a visitor and govern all services provided to you by Christian Aid Connect in connection with Christian Aid Connect, including but not limited to, access to message boards and use of any e-mail accounts, and other features and services such as personal home pages, provided from time to time.

If you do not agree to these Terms of Service, please do not enter Christian Aid Connect or register as a member or subscribe to our newsletters.

2. Amendments
We reserve the right to amend these Terms of Service from time to time without notice to you.

You will be able to access the Terms of Service throughout Christian Aid Connect . Please check the Terms of Service periodically to determine whether a change has been made to them. If you do not agree to changes in the Terms of Service as they may occur, please terminate your registration with us immediately and discontinue your use of Christian Aid Connect . Your continued use of Christian Aid Connect will signify your acceptance of any change in the Terms of Service set out here.

3. Registration
When you register with us you are stating that you are over 18 years of age or are a minor with parental consent to use the service you are registering for. PLEASE NOTE that all minors are recommended to discuss these terms and conditions with their parents or legal guardian before they complete any registration process or provide us with any information about themselves. We do not allow persons who we know to be 13 years of age or younger to register with Christian Aid Connect .

In return for allowing you to access Christian Aid Connect and to benefit from our services, you agree that any information you provide to us about yourself upon registration or at any other time will be true, accurate and complete and that you will ensure that this information is kept accurate and up to date at all times.

4. Password and Security
When you register to use Christian Aid Connect you will be asked to create a password. You must keep this password confidential and must not disclose it to or share it with anyone. PLEASE NOTE that you will be responsible for all activities that occur under your password. If you know or suspect that someone else knows your password you should notify us immediately at admin_caid@christianaidconnect.org.uk.

5. Privacy Policy
We treat your privacy very seriously and we understand that you will wish to know how we will use the information we collect from you. Please click hereto access our privacy policy, which is incorporated into these Terms of Service. All use of your personal information will be in accordance with our Privacy Policy and will comply with all applicable UK data protection legislation.

6. Content of Messages
You alone are responsible for the content of your messages and the consequences of any such messages.  Christian Aid Connect reserves the right to restrict, suspend or terminate your registration if it becomes aware and determines, in its sole discretion, that you are violating any of the following guidelines:

You may not use Christian Aid Connect or any subscriber's information, personal or otherwise, for any commercial purpose or to obtain direct financial gain (e.g. mass marketing). Christian Aid Connect is to be used by you for your personal use only. Commercial uses of Christian Aid Connect are strictly prohibited unless prior written consent from Christian Aid Connect has been granted for such use.

Christian Aid Connect must not be used for chain letters, junk mail, 'spamming', solicitations (commercial or non-commercial) or bulk communications of any kind (including but not limited to sending messages to distribution lists) unless the recipient has given specific permission to be included in such a list.

Christian Aid Connect must not be used to send or distribute any message or material that is unlawful, harassing, libelous, defamatory, abusive, threatening, harmful, vulgar, obscene, profane, sexually oriented, threatening, racially offensive, inaccurate or which otherwise includes objectionable material of any kind or nature (including but not limited to, illegal material in the form of text, graphics, video, programs or audio) or that encourages conduct that could constitute a criminal offence, give rise to civil liability or otherwise violate any applicable local, national or international law or regulation. No such message or material must be distributed or sent via Christian Aid Connect or posted on message boards or placed on Christian Aid Connect . Christian Aid Connect reserves the right to delete any such material from Christian Aid Connect .

You must not impersonate any other person or entity, whether actual or fictitious.

You must not use an inappropriate member name of any kind.

You may not post content or participate in any form of discussion with the intention to commit any illegal activity.

You must not use Christian Aid Connect or any part of Christian Aid Connect in a way that might reasonably be expected to cause the same to be interrupted, damaged, rendered less efficient or which could in any way damage the operation of another's computer.

7. Intellectual Property
You acknowledge that (i) Christian Aid Connect permits access to content that is protected by copyrights, trademarks and other intellectual and proprietary rights ('Rights'); (ii) these Rights are valid and protected in all media and technologies existing now or later developed; and (iii) except as explicitly provided otherwise, these Terms of Service and applicable copyright, trademark and other laws govern your use of such Rights. You may not post to Christian Aid Connect , copy, reproduce, retransmit, distribute, publish, commercially exploit or otherwise transfer any material subject to any Rights. The burden of determining that any information, software, images or any other content on Christian Aid Connect is not protected by Rights rests with you. You acknowledge that you will not acquire any Rights by downloading any materials on Christian Aid Connect .

By submitting content, which shall include your member name, to any 'public area' of Christian Aid Connect , including message boards, forums, contests and chat rooms, you grant Christian Aid Connect and its affiliates a royalty-free, perpetual, irrevocable, non-exclusive right and licence to use, reproduce, modify, adapt, publish, translate, create derivative works from, distribute, communicate to the public, perform and display the content (in whole or in part) worldwide and/or to incorporate it in other works in any form, media, or technology now known or later developed, for the full term of any Rights that may exist in such content.

You also warrant that the holder of any Rights, including moral rights, in such content (whether this is you or a third party) has completely and effectively waived all such rights and validly and irrevocably granted to you the right to grant the licence stated above. You also permit any member to access, display, view, store and reproduce such content for personal use. Subject to the foregoing, the owner of such content placed on Christian Aid Connect retains any and all Rights that may exist in such content.

However, Christian Aid undertakes not to publish member content without informing the member.

8. Modifications of the Site
Christian Aid may modify or discontinue Christian Aid Connect with or without notice to you and without liability to you or any third party.

9. Termination
Christian Aid reserves the right, at its sole discretion, immediately, without notice to you to restrict, suspend or terminate (i) these Terms of Service; (ii) your registration with or ability to access Christian Aid Connect and/or any other service provided to you by Christian Aid (including any e-mail account) upon any breach, or suspected breach by you of the Terms of Service (as determined in Christian Aid's sole discretion). The restriction, suspension or termination of our service pursuant to this section will be without prejudice to any rights which Christian Aid may have against you in respect of your breach of these Terms of Service.

10. Disclaimer of Warranties
Christian Aid Connect is provided on an 'as is' and 'as available' basis. Christian Aid expressly disclaims all warranties or representations of any kind, express or implied, to the fullest extent permitted by law.

You understand and agree that Christian Aid does not guarantee the accuracy or completeness of any information in or provided in connection with Christian Aid Connect . Christian Aid is not responsible for any errors or omissions or for the results obtained from the use of such information. The information is provided with the understanding that neither Christian Aid, its employees or consultants or its members, while such members are participating in Christian Aid Connect , are engaged in rendering legal, medical, counselling or other professional services or advice. Christian Aid encourages you to seek appropriate professional advice or care for any situation or problem which you may have.

Christian Aid shall not be responsible for any loss or damage caused, or alleged to have been caused, directly or indirectly, by the information or ideas contained, suggested or referenced on Christian Aid Connect. Your participation in Christian Aid Connect is solely at your own risk. No advice or information, whether oral or written, obtained by you from Christian Aid or through Christian Aid Connect shall create any warranty not expressly made in these terms of service or imposed by law.

11. Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by law Christian Aid shall not be liable for any direct, indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages, resulting from the use or the inability to use Christian Aid Connect or messages received or transactions entered into through Christian Aid Connect or resulting from unauthorised access to or alteration of your transmissions or data even if Christian Aid has been advised of the possibility of such damages.

15. Remedies for Breach of these Terms by You
In the event that Christian Aid determines, at its sole discretion, that you have breached any portion of these Terms of Service, or have otherwise demonstrated conduct inappropriate to the Christian Aid community, Christian Aid reserves the right to (i) warn you via e-mail that you have violated these Terms of Service; (ii) delete any content provided by you or your agent(s) to Christian Aid Connect , (iii) discontinue your registration with Christian Aid Connect (iv) notify and/or send content to and/or fully cooperate with the proper law enforcement authorities and/or agencies for further action; and/or (v) take any other action which Christian Aid deems to be appropriate.

16. Indemnification
You agree to indemnify and hold each of Christian Aid, its parents, subsidiaries, affiliates, officers and employees, harmless from any claim or demand, including reasonable attorneys' fees, made by any third party due to or arising out of your use of Christian Aid Connect , the violation of these Terms of Service by you, or the infringement by you, or any other subscriber of your account, or of any intellectual property or other right of any other person or entity.

17. Applicable Law
These Terms of Service shall be governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of England.
